Alfred B. “Jerub” Vaughn, age 78, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 9, 2016, in Oklahoma City, Okla. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 14, 2016, at Concord Missionary Baptist Church, Ardmore, Okla., with The Rev. Raymond Johnson, The Rev. Stanley Shomo, and The Rev. Melvin Palmer officiating. Interment to follow in Concord Cemetery, Ardmore, Okla.
Jerub was born on April 11, 1937, in Cheek, Okla., to Robert Alfred Vaughn and Lou Edith (Pierce) Vaughn. He started his career at the age of twelve with Vick Coleman’s Paint and Body Works in the early 1950s and started his own shop as Vaughn’s Paint and Body Shop in the late 1960s. He married Lillian Delois John on June 9, 1962. Jerub ran his shop until his retirement in 1999. A member and deacon of the Concord Missionary Baptist Church, he devoted his life to the care of the church grounds and the Concord Cemetery. He served on the board of the Choctaw and Chickasaw Associations. He and Delois loved attending church functions throughout the southeastern parts of the state and attending local gospel singings. Jerub enjoyed attending and spending time at the Choctaw language classes.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and two sons: Gary Lynn Burton and Billy Ray Burton. Granddaughter, Tawana Ann Burton, and two sisters: Marie Roberts and Ora Mae O’Dell.
Jerub is survived by his wife, Lillian Delois Vaughn, of the home, and daughters: Janet Lindsey of Ardmore, Okla., and Tawana Sue Watterson and husband, Owen, of Dickson, Okla. Great-granddaughter raised in the home, Jesselyn Burton Gill, and husband, Montana, of Ardmore, Okla. Grandchildren: Kimberly Burton of Dickson, Okla., Jason Watterson and fiancé, Allyson, of Ardmore, Okla., Juston Watterson and wife, Tamara, of Ardmore, Okla., and Chad Briscoe and wife, Tonya, of Lone Grove, Okla. Brother, Robert Vaughn Jr., and wife, Christine, and sister, Carolyn Howard, and husband, Tommy, all of Ardmore, Okla. Ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Prayer services will be held on Wednesday evening, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, January 13, 2016, at Concord Missionary Baptist Church, Ardmore, Okla.
