Obituary of David G. Snider

David G. Snider, age 72, passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at Ardmore, Okla. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, December 30, 2016, in The Chapel at Griffin ~ Hillcrest with The Reverend David Daniel officiating with private family interment to follow at Provence Cemetery.
David was born on September 20, 1944, in Lawton, Okla., to Gene Snider and Ruby (Cofer) Snider. After graduating from high school in Lawton, he attended Cameron University where he played clarinet in the band. David graduated with his Associate’s Degree. In his youth, he was a duck hunter with Bloyce Tarpley and would even travel as far as Canada to hunt. He opened his own gun shop in Lawton. David applied for a position with the United States Postal Service and was accepted and is a third-generation postal worker. He worked for a couple of years and then took a position with K-Mart as sporting goods manager and was transferred to Ardmore with K-Mart as the sporting goods manager. He went back to work for the US Postal Service as a carrier and later as a carrier supervisor. David retired from the Postal Service in 2003. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and served as a Deacon. David married Donnola (Blanton) Westbrook on August 9, 1991, in Ardmore, Okla. The couple later became members at First United Methodist Church of Ardmore. David was an excellent craftsman, making wooden toys and doll furniture for most of his life. He loved the glow of amazement that would appear on a child’s face as they received one of his beautifully crafted toys.
He was preceded in death by parents and sister, Barbara Tarpley.
David is survived by his wife, Donnola Snider, son, Shawn Westbrook, and his wife Candice, and two grandsons: Devon Westbrook and Blake Westbrook. Sisters: Nancy Baxendale, Judy McCurry and her husband, Regis, and Betty Denney, and husband, Roy, brother-in-law, Bloyce Tarpley, niece, Julie Hunnicutt and husband Ryan, and great-nieces: Mickey, Mary, and Emily.
