Boyd Raymond "Ray" Sloan, age 81, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at his home in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 pm, Friday, February 24, 2017, in the Chapel at Griffin-Hillcrest with Pastor Roy Fountain officiating.
Ray was born on July 2, 1935, to Ora Nolton Sloan and Ada Mae (Hughes) Sloan at Roff, Oklahoma. He met and married his (Little Choctaw Princess, The Love Of His Life), Helen Marie Roberts on January 25, 1953, in Gainesville, Texas. They recently celebrated 64 years of wedded bliss. From this union they were blessed with one son and five daughters. Ray graduated from Roff High School and went on to East Central College in Ada, Oklahoma, to pursue a degree in music. In 1954, he and his mother opened the first private licensed nursing home in Carter County. Though Ray worked at many jobs over the years he was best known for his musical talents and exceptional fiddle playing. In the music industry he was known as "Lucky". He taught each of his children to play music and established their family band, The Kountry Krickets. He also, was an avid OKC Thunder Fan. Ray was a member of the Blue Lodge in Wheatland, Wyoming, The Scottish Rite in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Ray was also a member of Ardmore, Oklahoma Eastern Star Chapter 70, where he served as a Past Worthy Patron.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents, one son Kevin Lynn Sloan, Granddaughter Lacie Anthony, brother Durwood Sloan and sister Hazel Choate.
Ray is survived by his wife, Helen Sloan, of the home, daughters: Terry and Alfred Walker, Yolanda Holbrook and Darrell Howard, Merceda and Robin Graves, Lesha Gary and Tommy Crosby and Sammi Hall and Gary Turner. He is also survived by a Special Red Headed daughter, Elaine and Sam Owens, and Special friend Kory Knott. Ray is also survived by fourteen grand children, twenty one great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
