Obituary of Carl M. Long
Carl M. Long, age 90, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2017, at Oklahoma City, Okla.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, May 18, 2017, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Ardmore, Okla., with Pastor Donny Custar officiating.
Carl was born in Memphis, Texas, on October 10, 1926, to William Francis Long and Ora Mae Thompson. After the family moved to Love Valley in Oklahoma, he attended Marietta Schools and then finished his education in Ardmore. He graduated from Ardmore High School. Carl served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and received an honorable discharge. He returned home and on December 5, 1948, he married the love of his life, Miss Mildred Imogene McFarland. The couple lived in Hugo, Okla., where he worked for Jax Beer as a delivery driver. In 1954, they moved to Ardmore, Okla., where he continued to work for Jax Beer Distributing. After they closed, he took a position driving over the road for Little Brownie Bakery out of Marietta for 18 years. For a time, he worked for such companies as Bacon Transport and Rider Trucking. Carl loved to work in his yard, as well as wood working. Fishing and hunting were his favorite time to be outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mildred Long and son-in-law, Mark Young.
Carl is survived by his daughter, Carla Young, son, Joe Long and wife, Doobie Potter, son, Jimmy Long and life partner, Linda Shumaker, grandchildren: Leisa Chance, Angela Benson and husband, Jay, Christopher Young and wife, Jenny, and Rusty Young and wife, Haley, great-grandchildren: Garrett, Kayla, Logan, Chance, Mitchell, Madison, Taylor, Benson, and Alden Young. One sister, Frances Dunlap, and many nieces and nephews.
