Obituary of Martha Louise Elmore

Martha Louise Elmore, age 91, went home to our Lord and Savior on January 2, 2018, in Healdton, Okla.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, January 5, 2018, at The Chapel at Griffin ~ Hillcrest with Pastor Carl Hill officiating. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Ardmore, Okla.

Our dear mother, Louise, was born on March 8, 1926, to Oatis A. and Ruby I. (Gothard) Deathrage. She married George F. Elmore on August 2, 1941, in Springer, Okla. They were blessed with five children: Winfred Larry, Patricia Irene, Gary Wayland, Samuel Scott, and Kathy Elaine. She was a nurse in the Ardmore area for many years, starting at Memorial Hospital in the 1950's.  During her nursing career, she was employed by Dr. Ralph W. Murphy and Dr. Joe Hamill.  Louise was a member of the American Business Women's Association for many years and of the Nazarene Church of  Ardmore.  After her move to Wilson, she became a member of the First United Methodist Church. Many women knew our mother as the “Mary Kay Lady.” She loved making women beautiful, and she was beautiful. Everyone loved Louise and she brought joy to many people.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George F. Elmore, eldest son, Larry W. Elmore, granddaughter, Garrie Lynn Elmore, and her mother and father, Oatis A. and Ruby I. Deathrage. Louise was the eldest of five girls and the last surviving sister to Mildred Crossley, Joyce McDowell, Fern Keith, and Billie Hill.

Louise is survived by her children and their spouses: Patricia Runnels and husband Floyd of Wilson; Gary Elmore and wife Teresa of Marietta; Samuel Elmore and wife Dovie of Marietta; and Kathy Gamble and husband Mike of Zaneis. Her grandchildren: Courtney Elmore of Ardmore; Melissa Hodges and Christy Jones of Overbrook; Robin Whatley and husband Jeff of Wilson; Frank Hodges and wife Teresa of Overbrook; Wesley Elmore and wife Whitney of Thackerville; Weston Elmore and wife Dana of Prague; Sean Elmore; Jeff Stromberg of Ardmore; Lindsay Elmore of Thackerville; Matthew Elmore of Ohio; and Christian E. Manton and Teddi Roper of Tempe, Arizona. Her great-grandchildren: Braden C. Whatley and wife Jacobi of Norman; Cassidy B. Whatley and fiancé C.J. Ramsey of Wilson; and Matthew, Wesley, Johnathon, and Joshua Hodges all of Corinth, Texas.  Her great-great grandchildren: Jensyn and Hawk Whatley of Norman; Mia Elmore of Thackerville; Maudey Elmore of Thackerville; and Kalli, Harper, and Myah Elmore of Prague.  Louise had numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved her dearly and she loved them. You will be greatly missed, but forever in our hearts.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Whatley, Braden Whatley, Frank Hodges, Westly Elmore, Weston Elmore. and Matt Hodges. Honorary Pallbearer is Jeff Stromberg.

Visitation will be held on Thursday evening, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, January 4, 2018, at Griffin ~ Hillcrest Funeral Home of Ardmore, Okla.
