Erma Louise (House) Applewhite, age 90, entered Heaven from her home on Sunday, February 11, 2018, with family and close friends at her side. A visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at Griffin~Hillcrest. Private interment to follow.
Erma was born to the late William Henry House and Joyce Gertrude (Neal) House on January 12, 1928, at Water Valley, Mississippi, where she grew up and attended school. She became a Christian early in life and was of the Baptist faith. She married Roy Applewhite and was blessed with two children: Perrin LeRoy and Tracy Lynn. She moved to Ardmore in 1974 from Jacksboro, Texas, and became a resident of Ardmore Village. She was involved in many civic and community organizations, including leadership roles in a large number of fundraising and spiritual ministries there.
Erma retired in 1993, after many years as an Oklahoma District Sales Manager with Avon Cosmetics for five counties. She was an avid gardener, but most of all she cherished time with her family and friends. She was the all time “shopper”, mostly with daughter, Tracy. Anyone who had the opportunity to know her enjoyed her love, dedication, honesty, compassion, and devotion to her friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Perry Applewhite in 2017; sisters: Laverne Wolfe, Lorene Griffin, and Vivian Lewis all of Water Valley, Miss.
Erma is survived by her daughter, Tracy Lynn Braden and husband, Randy, of Ardmore, daughter-in-law, Peggy Applewhite (wife of the late Perry Applewhite) of Bryson, Texas. Grandchildren: LeWayne Braden and wife, Brandy, of Ardmore, Justin Braden of Ardmore, Jake Applewhite and wife, Amber, of Jacksboro, Texas, and Angela Redder and husband, Fred, of Bridgeport, Texas. Three great-grandchildren: Katelin Redder, Levi Redder and Austin Braden.
Family and close friends who were privileged to care for Erma in her home thank Cross Timbers Hospice for their guidance and loving care. Especially, we are grateful to Halie Dobbs, Erma’s RN and friend who walked us through this journey.
Serving as pallbearers will be LeWayne Braden, Justin Braden, Jake Applewhite, Austin Braden, Randy Braden, and Brandy Braden.
