Obituary of Richard Turner
Richard Turner, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2018, in Ardmore, Okla. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, February 26, 2018, in The Chapel at Griffin ~ Hillcrest. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Ardmore.
Richard was born on October 18, 1932, to Luke Richard Turner and Ruby (Higgins) Turner in Brock, Okla. He graduated from Dickson High School with the Class of 1951. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1954. Richard married Miss Phyllis Ann Rudd on March 6, 1954. The couple lived in Ardmore, Okla., where he worked for a paint contractor. In 1955, Richard went to work for Southwestern Bell as a telephone lineman and after 31 years of service, he retired in 1986 as a repeaterman. In 1988, he went to work for Chickasaw Telephone and was there for seven years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ardmore. Richard enjoyed hunting and fishing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and looked forward to cooking for the Rudd Family Reunions. He and Phyllis loved traveling to Colorado in the early Fall. They would wait for the first snow fall to return home.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Richard is survived by his wife, Phyllis Turner; two daughters: Gay Lynn Reding and husband, Mike, of Ardmore, and Sheila Brecht and husband, Kenny, of Ardmore; five grandchildren: Rick Reding and wife, Laurel, Chris Reding and wife, Amy, Amanda Reding and her fiancé, Todd Rasmuson, Amber Blakeman and husband, Andrew, and Jacob Brecht; five great-grandchildren: Brock Reding, Jake Reding, Hunter Reding, Addie Reding, and Lilli Reding; and sister, Wanda Jean Lynn and husband, Billy, of Ardmore.
Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon, from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm, February 25, 2018, at Griffin~Hillcrest, Ardmore, Okla.
