Robert David “Bob” Hunt, age 85, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, July 2, 2016, in The Chapel at Griffin-Hillcrest of Ardmore, Okla., with services concluding in The Chapel. A private interment service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Ardmore.
Robert was born in Ardmore, Okla., on March 13, 1931, to Herman Oliver Hunt and Alice (Fraser) Hunt. He graduated from Ardmore High School in 1949. He attended Murray State College in Tishomingo and the University of Oklahoma in Norman. In 1951, Robert joined the U.S. Navy, received his training at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station in Michigan, and served on the destroyer USS Rowan for one year. He then became a Medical Corpsman attached to the U.S. Marine Corps. After he finished his training at the U.S. Naval Hospital Corp School in San Diego, he was immediately sent to serve on the front line during the Korean conflict. After being wounded in the line of duty, he served at the E Medical Company, 1st Marine Division, in Korea. His service at this facility was chronicled in LIFE Magazine covering the last Korean War Marine casualty. During his service to our country, he received many commendations including a Purple Heart. Robert was married to Mattie Carol Berryhill on August 29, 1959; they were happily married for 54 years before her passing in 2013. Robert worked as a medical orderly immediately following his service in Korea. He then went on to work for McKesson and Robbins Pharmaceutical Company as a Sales Manager until his retirement. Robert enjoyed OU football, reading, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Carol Hunt; his grandsons: Benjamin and Nathan Morris; and two brothers: Herman Hunt Jr. and Thomas E. Hunt.
Robert is survived by two brothers: Henry and George Hunt of Ardmore; three daughters: Callie Hunt of Norman, Alice and Justin Johnson of Tulsa, and Carrie and David Reynolds of Stillwater. He also leaves four grandchildren: Ian Hunt of Moore, Mattie Hunt of New York City, Amanda Reynolds Balaban and Samuel P Balaban of Oklahoma City, and Christopher Reynolds of Stillwater. He leaves four great-grandchildren: Sylis, Ian Jr, Emmitt, and Jaiden, all of Moore. He also leaves numerous family members and friends.
