Obituary of James Greenaway

James Greenaway, age 79, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2016, at Ardmore, Okla. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, June 22, 2016, in The Chapel at Griffin ~ Hillcrest with The Reverend Leroy Hollman officiating. Cremation services are under the direction of Griffin~Hillcrest.
James was born on September 19, 1936, at Wilson, Okla., to James Thomas “Jim” Greenaway and Emma (Burchfield) Greenaway. He attended elementary school at Dickson Schools and was a graduate of Plainview High School. He attended Oklahoma Business College in Oklahoma City. James moved to Dallas, Texas, where he worked for Graphic Engraving Co. as the Production Manager for many years. He then moved California where he continued working in the graphic design industry and he meeting JoAnn Machdanz. The couple married on March 22, 1963, in Los Angeles. From this union came his three children. Their marriage ended in January of 1967. He later married Phyllis (Hartley) Powell on Sept. 13, 2006, at Ardmore, Okla. After the couple retired, they moved to Jasper, Indiana, to be close to Phyllis’s family. Following Phyllis’s passing on Sept. 6, 2014, James returned to Ardmore, Okla. He opened “The Tax Man” and has worked there until his passing. He was an avid supporter of Alcoholics Anonymous, was a speaker at the meetings, and held his 10-year sobriety.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis A. Greenaway, his parents, three sisters: Louise Mitchell, Janice White, and Jean Eads, and four brothers: Scotty Eugene Greenaway, Donald Greenaway, and two in infancy.
James is survived by son, Russell Greenaway and Kristi Dalton of Idaho. Two daughters: Sherri Miller and husband, Curt, of Washington, and Suzanne Greenaway of Ardmore, Okla. Six grandchildren: Dustin Greenaway, Jennifer Miller, Brandon Miller, Hailey Greenaway, Randi Greenaway, and Collin Greenaway. Three sisters: Jo Eva Summers of Springtown, Texas, LaVena McKay and husband, Elbin, of Ardmore, and Judy Brooks and husband, Johnny, of Ardmore.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, June 22, 2016, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, at Griffin ~ Hillcrest, Ardmore, Okla.
