Obituary of Marjorie Jane (Besaw) Patterson

Please share a memory of Marjorie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marjorie Jane (Besaw) Patterson born March 20, 1927 departed peacefully from this life on June 1, 2020 at her residence in Ardmore, OK. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday June 6, 2020, in The Chapel at Griffin-Hillcrest and will be officiated by Randy Wade. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Marjorie, or Margie as she was often called, was born in Portage Lakes, Ohio to the late Carl and Katherine Besaw. Marjorie was the fourth child born to the couple. Margie and her family relocated from Ohio to the Ardmore area when she was a young child when her Father’s family came to the area to open the Akron Tire Plant. Margie and her late husband James Patterson, who preceded her in death, moved into the family home where they would raise their two daughters and see her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. Margie left high school early to start working where her first job was an elevator operator. Her hard work ethic helped her land a job at Southwestern Bell as a phone operator. She would go on to work 30 years for Southwestern Bell before retiring as a supervisor in August of 1985 when the company closed its Ardmore office. After the office closed down several of the ladies would meet up once a month at what we all referred to as the Telephone Girls Breakfast Club, these monthly meetings were always a highlight for Margie. Being able to retire at a young age allowed her time for crafting, gardening, watching her tennis matches, and traveling. However, her favorite thing to do was watching her grand and great-grand kids. Those of us who got to spend days with Mema remember her Diet 7-UP and cookies while we watched her soaps and the Golden Girls. Preceding her in death were her four siblings Emmet Besaw, Elmer Besaw, Edna Mattingly, and Katherine Justice. Her son-in-laws Charles Newsom and Jimmy Mayes. Marjorie is survived by her daughters Roxanna Newsom and Susan Mayes. She also is survived by grandchildren – Christopher and wife Debra Newsom, Tiffany Mayes, Sherry Bruce and fiancé Chris Auten, Carrie Mayes, Regina Mayes, and Doug Bruce (Paul). Her grandchildren Shae-Lyn and husband Clinton Easterwood, Megan Brown, Jakayla Mayes, Dakota Brown, Ashton Bruce, Sierra Newsom, Gabrielle Mayes, Demetria Mayes, Landon Tyre, Coltin Porter, and Jaron Bruce. Her great-grandchildren - Zoe Taylor, Remy Ford, Piper Cunningtubby, Olivia Easterwood, and Ella Joe. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Chris Newsom, Ashton Bruce, Dakota Brown, Clinton Easterwood, Doug Bruce, and Chris Auten. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Cross Timbers Hospice 207 Cst NW Ardmore, OK 73401. Family visitation will be held from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Friday, June 5, 2020 at Griffin~Hillcrest.
