Obituary of Onesimo C. Garza Jr.

Onesimo C. Garza Jr., age 77, passed away on September 16, 2022, in Ardmore, Okla. A gathering will be held from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Griffin ~ Hillcrest Funeral Home. A memorial graveside service will be held at 2:00pm, Friday, September 23, 2022 in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Onesimo was born on June 7, 1945, to Onesimo M. Garza, Sr. and Dolores (Caseres) Garza in LaCoste, TX. He attended Medina Texas Schools and started his career in carpentry. He then moved to Poteau, Okla., where he pursued his career of 32 years as a police officer and became the Chief of Police. Onesimo then moved to Ardmore, Okla. and became a sergeant on the Ardmore Police Force where he retired in 2002. He loved to invite his whole neighborhood over to eat at his house for fish fries. He enjoyed traveling to Mexico and riding his motorcycle anytime he could. Onesimo had a passion for trading cars and going dancing. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Victor Garza and Mario Garza, sister, Guadalupe Martinez, and son, Armando “Army” Garza. Onesimo is survived by daughter, Chanoa Garza, of Las Vegas, Nevada, son, Enrique Garza, of Ardmore, daughter, Celestial Garza, Ardmore, daughter, Celena Sherfield and husband, Elijah, of Ada, Okla., daughter, Questa Garza, of Tulsa, Okla., daughter, Rebekah Warnke of Tulsa, Okla., daughter, Helena Garza of Tulsa, daughter, Dolores Shorey of Blackwell, Okla., son, Onesimo Garza, Jr. of CO., daughter, Mary Schafer, of Oklahoma City, Okla., daughter, Debbie Misock, of FL., and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Brothers, Joe Garza and wife Lydia of Von Ormy, TX., Demetrio “Metro” Garza and wife Abelina, Ardmore, OK, and David Garza of Ardmore; sisters, Lydia Roberts of Flint, MI, Mary Helen Akins of El Cajon, CA, and Patricia Botello and husband, Robert of LaCoste, TX. and a host of family and friends.
