Obituary of Emogean Carter

Emogean Carter, age 82, passed away on March 22, 2016, at Marietta, Okla. Funeral services to be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, March 26, at The Chapel at Griffin~Hillcrest with The Reverend Dewain Duck officiating. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Ardmore, Okla. Emogean was born to W.T. Shelton and Lillian (Collins) Shelton on August 5, 1933, at McMillan, Okla. An Ardmore area resident most of her life, Emogean attended Plainview High School where she was an outstanding athlete on the girls basketball team. After graduating with the class of 1952, she played professional basketball with the All American Red Heads for two years. They traveled from state to state, playing full court basketball against all men teams. This allowed her to visit all of the states except Alaska and Hawaii. She once played in Madison Square Garden. She stopped playing with the Red Heads to marry Bill Carter and have two boys who she could dress up in cowboy boots, blue jeans, and white shirts. Later in life, she worked for Pepsi Cola, Western Leather, and the Oklahoma Veterans Center. She enjoyed playing the domino game, Moon, with many of her closest friends. Her true joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Jesse Paul, Worley, W. T. “Dib”, Woodrow, Willie, and Wayne, and sisters: Leona, Melma, Izora, Bessie Marie, and Betty Jo. Emogean is survived by sons: Jackie Dean Carter and wife Bronwyn and Billy Gene Carter and wife Gwen. Grandchildren: Aaron John, Andra Lynn, and Kelsi Pearl. Great-grandchildren: Joey, Jade, Jacy, Anilin, Emma, Zoey, and Kai. Sister, Anna Belle Sheehy and husband Ray. Pallbearers will be Aaron Simon, Scott Corder, Glen Hatley, Joey Anchondo, Scott Sheehy, and Greg McLaughlin. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of her nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Friday evening, from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm, March 25, 2016, at Griffin~Hillcrest, Ardmore, Okla.
