Obituary of Melva Lucille Hodges

Melva Lucille Hodges, age 94, passed away on April 9, 2023 in Ardmore, Okla. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday, April 13, 2023, at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Pastor Donny Custar officiating. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Ardmore, Okla. Lucille was born on August 26, 1928, to George and Donia (Cross) Metcalf in Whitesboro, Texas. She took a position with the Morris Plan as a secretary for a short time and then married H.A. Hodges on December 24, 1949, and they moved to Ardmore, Okla. Lucille became a homemaker devoting her life to her husband. The couple joined the Emmanuel Baptist Church on March 17, 1957; where she was deeply involved and taught a children’s Sunday school class. Lucille did not decide to drive until later in 1974, where she will be remembered for her stature which required her to sit on two pillows to see over the steering wheel. She was an avid reader and loved arts, working her puzzles and crafts. She loved her collection of Chickens and had them proudly displayed all around the house. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters and three brothers. Lucille is survived by her niece, Sandra Colbert of Mannsville, Okla., Patsy Brown of Oklahoma City, Okla. Loretta Perkins of New Cassel, Judy Caugh, of Denison, TX., Janetta Gardner of McKinney, TX., Nephew, Sammy Metcalf of Dennison, TX., and sisters-in-law; Mahotta Miller, of Denison, TX., Lucille Marak, of Denison, TX., Clair Bennett of Denison, TX., and Dueton Whitfill of Sachse , TX., and sons-in-law; Freddie Hodges of Ardmore, Okla. and Dan Hodges of Adair, Okla. Serving as pallbearers will be Dennis Jenkins, Lee Martin, Tony Colbert, William Landrum, Mark Cunningham, and Harold Julian Honorary pallbearers will be Boyd Howell and Ken French.
