Hattensty and Martha Elizabeth "Betty" Bourns Hattensty. She attended Washington Elementary School in Ardmore, and Bacone in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Mona was a tribal member of the Choctaw Nation. She was also a member of the Ardmore Indian Baptist Church and the Chickasaw Nation Senior Site. While residing in Oklahoma City, she was a member of the Central Baptist Church and the OK Choctaw Tribal Alliance. Mona retired as the Director of the Native American Senior Center for the Salvation Army in Oklahoma City after 14 years of service, at the age of 71. She has resided in Texas, Louisiana, Virginia and California. One of her grandsons when he was around 3 years old thought that every airplane in the sky had his grandma in it. He would wave and say, Hi, Grandma! We would always find her browsing in a gift shop at the airport, never waiting at the gate. Some of her favorite pastimes were shopping, reading, playing scrabble and dominoes, and spending time with her family and friends, and she especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren's sporting events. She also loved to sing, especially to her children when they were younger, on car rides or getting them to sleep. As a child she was known to be adventurous and daring from sneaking off to the circus at 3 years old with her neighborhood friend; to jumping off the viaduct with lifelong friend Doris Jean Patrick. Mona was a very social and outgoing person. She had so many people that she loved to talk and visit with, in person or by phone. Thank you all for making time for her. She appreciated every call and visit. A special thank you to Rhonda Tidwell, and Elara Caring for their invaluable assistance for providing comfort and care during her last days. Mona was preceded in death by her parents, spouse Alvin Leroy Williams, Sr. and sisters Patricia Toledo, Bettie Lane, Rita Stilley and Joy Hattensty, sons Bobby Joe Palmer, Sr., SSG Edward Alan Palmer, Sr., and two infant children. She held a special place in her heart for Linda K. Beane Vaughn and Melvin Palmer, who also predeceased her. Surviving family include her children, Carolyn Palmer Cooper, Steve R. Bond, Lisa Bond Spikes, all of Ardmore, and Starr Bond Linch and husband Mark of Hulbert, Oklahoma and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was lovingly referred to as grandma or memaw by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Pallbearers: grandsons and great grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers: nieces and nephews. Flower girls: granddaughters and great granddaughters.
