Shirley Ann (Johnson) Herschel Thompson went to be with the Lord on December 2, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Ardmore, OK. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, December 11, 2023, in McAlister Cemetery with Reverend Steven Wall Officiating. Shirley was born on December 17, 1946 in Marietta, OK to Frank and Lavene (Brokeshoulder) Johnson. Shirley attended Marietta Public Schools from pt through 12th grades, graduating with the class of 1965. Upon graduation she moved to Dallas, TX to attend Draughons Business College, earning a secretarial degree. She later found employment with Recognition Equipment of Dallas. While living in Dallas, she met her first husband, Lonnie Herschel and to this union, her son Jay was born. After this marriage ended, she then moved back home to Marietta, where she worked for a short time with the Marietta Pants Factory. She was then employed with the Chickasaw Nation, where she was a CHR worker serving several counties. After her work with the Nation ended, she then embarked on a job with the Marietta DHS office for 7 years. She was employed for 5 years with Dollar General of Marietta and was also employed by WinStar Casinos in the call center, where she enjoyed making lifetime friends. Shirley will be remembered for her kind and friendly nature, always laughing, talking, reminiscing about good times. "Miss Shirley", as she was known to be called was also known as the "Pie Lady", for she had a talent for making fried pies and selling them to those who asked for them, and just to be able to socialize. Shirley was a proud member of the Mississippi Choctaw Tribe. She is survived by her husband, Edwin Thompson of the home; son, Jay Herschel of the home; sister Barbara Williams of Marietta; sisters-in-law Lorraine Johnson of Madill, OK, Andrea Johnson of Mead, OK, Virginia Johnson of Ardmore, and Barbara Lang of Fletcher, OK; a brother-in-law, Larry Scott of Ada, OK; and numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Calvin, Jimmy, Ronnie, Billy and Kenneth Johnson; a sister Rita Scott; and a nephew, Russell Johnson. Serving as pallbearers will be her nephews, Spencer Davis, Lee Rackley, Ryan Johnson, Daniel Johnson, Jerome Morgan, and David Scott. Honorary bearers will be Spencer Davis, Jr., Layne Armitage, Henry Armitage, Noah Story, Asher Story, Layton Brintle, Carter Brintle, Seth Armijo and Mario Haine.
