Obituary of Foy Lawanna Jones
Please share a memory of Foy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Big things come in small packages. Foy Lawanna Jones, 95, of Ardmore, Oklahoma, went to be with her Heavenly Father on January 29, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, February 3, 2024, at The Chapel at Griffin~Hillcrest Funeral Home. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Foy was a little firecracker who entered the world on January 5, 1929 to parents, Semore and Jewel Jackson in Wilson, Oklahoma. The doctor's predicted she would not reach adulthood. The highest she ever stood was 3’11” and her maximum weight was 77 pounds.
Foy was the only girl out of seven precious children. She had six brothers, Ura, Giles, H.L., Doyle, Jerry and Wayland.
Foy married the love of her life Charles Jones on October 1, 1949, in Gainesville, Texas. Foy and Charles had one son, Charles Michael “Mike” Jones, born on May 4, 1951. Mike was the light of their lives.
Outside her family, two interests consumed much of her life. First was her job right out of Ardmore High School where she was a colorist for the Baird Photography Studio, which blossomed her into a full-time artist and teacher of painting.
Her second important interest was serving the LPA, (Little People of America), in various capacities,
hosting legendary regional meetings at her home on Lake Ardmore.
She was a popular Sunday School Teacher at K Street Baptist Church because she could look the children in the eyes without bending down.
She made her own clothes and had an eye for fashion, always matching her lipstick and nails to her
outfits. She didn’t let being short in stature get in the way of chasing her dreams, and was unstoppable!
With sheer determination, anything she put her mind to do, she did. She was admired for her spunk, her drive, her smarts, independence and artistry.
She was an avid game player of cards, bingo, dominos and frequently went away as the winner, and loved a good chocolate milkshake. She never met a stranger. For such a little lady, she leaves a big loss. We will miss her dearly.
Foy was preceded in death by her parents, Semore and Jewel Jackson, husband, Charles Jones, son, Charles “Mike” Jones, and siblings; Ura, Giles, H.L., Doyle, and Jerry Jackson.
She is survived by her brother, Wayland Jackson, numerous nieces and nephews, who adored her, and a host of family and friends.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Friday, February 2, 2024, at Griffin~Hillcrest Funeral Home.
