Obituary of Mary Margaret Jones Wilson
Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
In need of another angel, God called home his good and faithful servant, Mary Margaret Jones Wilson, Tuesday evening, Feb. 9, 2016, for a homecoming in heaven. Mary was 88 when she passed away after suffering from a brief illness. A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Christ on Merrick Drive. Virgil Trout will officiate the service with Mario Pineda assisting. Interment will be scheduled at a later date.
Mary was born to George Tomlinson Jones and Margaret Ayers Franklin Jones on Dec. 28, 1927, in Wheeler, Okla., during the midst of the Depression. Attending rural Oklahoma schools, Mary tucked away memories that would last a lifetime and be shared with future generations. She married Ruel Pearce Wilson on Jan. 25, 1947, in Gainesville, Texas, following his service in World War II. Together, Mary and Ruel built a family, living as husband and wife for 43 years until he passed away at the age of 63 on June 28, 1990. Mary had a selfless heart, putting others before herself. Ruel was a Church of Christ minister for 38 years with Mary serving Christ alongside him. It was not uncommon for her to drop what she was doing to give someone a ride to the doctor or provide the service needed. Mary was active in the prison ministry, sharing God’s love. She also helped start the blood mobile in Ringling. Mary was also very active in her children's lives, serving as PTA President and Band Booster President. In later years, Mary, known as Ms. Wilson and Ms. Mary to many, would help run Wilson Sound, with an uncanny sense of being able to identify the music people were looking for. She could tell you all about bands like Led Zeppelin and provide a knowledgeable opinion on what their best album was. After Ruel passed away, Mary took over ownership of Wilson Monument, often driving by herself to Texas to pick up monuments. Mary had a love of history and took great pleasure in sharing stories about growing up during the Depression and of early Carter County. She put together several books of Carter County communities and read everything she could about Quanah Parker in her later years. Mary loved basketball and was one of the Oklahoma City Thunder's biggest fans.
