Connie Dixon, age 71, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2016, at Ardmore, Okla. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, February 7, 2016, in the McClure Chapel at the First United Methodist Church under the direction of the Family with The Reverend Dan Patman officiating.
Connie was born on June 5, 1944, to Clifford A. Shivley and Loretta (Gill) Shivley, in Lincoln, Nebraska. The family moved to Ft. Collins, Colorado, when she was thirteen. She graduated from Ft. Collins High School. While attending school, Connie married her high school sweetheart, Derrol Dean Dixon, when she was fifteen. After her graduation from high school, the couple moved to Washington State for three years while Connie enjoyed being a homemaker. The couple moved to Milton-Freewater, Oregon, where she worked at the local airport as a waitress for two years before they and moved back Ft. Collins where Connie returned to being a homemaker. The couple lived in Kanas City Kansas, Independence, Kansas, then in1966, to Flint, Michigan, and then to Ft. Wayne, Indiana, where the family made their home for thirty years. Connie worked in the office at Kreskey’s and did seamstress work at home. The couple moved to a farm where she helped with the everyday work of the farm. She opened a restaurant “Connie’s Kitchen” in Ashly, Indiana. She managed Sally’s Beauty Supply Store in Ft. Wayne and in Crown Point, Indiana, in 1993, where the couple moved following Dean’s work. She opened her own craft store for a short time. Connie worked for NIPSCO as a sales person until she retired in 1997. They moved to Ozark, Missouri, for five years, North Carolina to be near their son, D. Dean Dixon, Jr., for five years, and then to Ardmore, Okla., to be close to their daughter, Cherri Bradley. She and Dean are members of The First United Methodist Church of Ardmore. Connie enjoyed crafting and taught herself how to knit, embroidery, crochet, needle point and many other crafting skills.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Clifford A. “Bud” Shivley Jr.
Connie is survived by her husband, Dean Dixon, of the home. Children: Cherri Bradley of the home. Terri Robinett of Waterloo, Indiana, Mimi Myers of Huntington, Indiana, D. Dean Dixon, Jr., of Gold Hill, North Carolina, Deana Dixon of Adel, Georgia, Daniel Dixon of Ft Wayne, Indiana, and Dominic Dixon of Beaverton, Oregon. Seventeen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Two brothers: Roger Shivley of Ft Collins, Colorado, and Daniel Shivley of Ozark, Missouri.
