Obituary of Gary Joe Cox

Gary Joe Cox, age 77, passed away on August 19, 2024, in Ardmore, Okla. Graveside services will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Loco Cemetery, in Loco, Okla. Gary was born on October 18, 1946, to Billy Joe Cox and Mary Oma (Bradshaw) Cox, in Duncan, Okla. He was a graduate of Loco High School. He was called to serve his county in December of 1965 in the U.S. Army, served in the Vietnam War and achieving the rank of Specialist and was honorably discharged in September 1967. He married Kathy Dale (Griffith) on November 28, 1967 in Weatherford, TX and soon after they started their family. The marriage ended 16 years later, though their relationship stayed strong. Gary worked in the oilfield for many years for Jones Drilling out of Duncan, Okla. Gary liked to raise a garden and go antiquing. He was an avid crappie fisherman and would go to Lake Texoma anytime he could to fish at Cumberland cove. He was preceded in death by his parents. Gary is survived by his children, Joe Dale Cox, of Lexington, Okla., Jerry Wayne Cox, of Duncan, Okla., Terry Shane Cox of Oklahoma City, Okla., Stacey Cox of Pauls Valley, Okla., Crystal Hagood of Ardmore, Okla., and Matthew Cox and wife Lacey of Wilson, Okla.; grandchildren, Kyle Cox, Blake Sanders, Garrett King, Madison Cox, Dakota Cox, Kinlee Cox, Chelsea Cox; one brother, Don Cox and wife, Wilma, of Lone Grove, sisters, Kay Stewart and husband, Larry of Comanche, Okla. and Norma Melton and husband, Tony of Lake Texoma. As well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends. Visitation will be held from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at Griffin ~ Hillcrest Funeral Home.
