Rex Asbury Halferty, age 79, passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2016, at Ardmore, Okla.Memorial services will be held at 6:00 pm, Friday, February 5, 2016, at The Chapel at Griffin~Hillcrest with Pastor Ron Elmore officiating.
Rex was born on September 4, 1936, to Roy Ester Halferty and Alice May (Bond) Halferty in Newton, Iowa. Rex loved life, sports, and reading books, but he loved cooking most of all. He cooked at numerous places Sanford’s, Calloway’s Catfish, Davenport’s, Lake Murray Lodge, and many other places. He enjoyed gardening and making fresh salsa. He loved reminiscing about his life when he was younger and all the places he had traveled and taking his grandkids to the lake to go fishing. Rex was a great man who never met a stranger. He loved life and everything about it.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Jackie Halferty, brother Joe Halferty, and sisters: Joan Lanphier and Kathleen Freeman.
Rex is survived by his wife, Inez Halferty, sons: Tim Halferty and wife Sharon, and Rex Halferty Jr., daughters: Cecil Mary Garrison and husband Gary, Tammy Halferty, Mona Rogers, and stepsons, Roy Wayne Hartman Jr., and wife Karen, and Martin Charles Hartman, and wife Stacey, brother Bob Halferty, sister Maxine Kubath and husband Jim, 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Those serving as honorary pallbearers will be Cadence Hartman, Kinlee Hartman, Sabrina Halferty, Alice Mae Halferty, Kristel Rogers, Eric Rogers, Joshua Hartman, Devin Hartman, Austin Hartman, Zachary Hartman, and Kendra Hartman.
