Harley James Martin born February 6, 1956, to Robert Martin and Mary Cooper in Hobbs, New Mexico, passed this heavenly earth on Monday, October 7, 2024, at the age of 68 years, 8 months and 1 day at his home in Lone Grove, Oklahoma. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Griffin Funeral Home Chapel, Ardmore, Oklahoma. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Harley lived his early life in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma and moved to his forever home at Carter County Group Homes in Lone Grove at the age of 32 where he gained a new group of family members and friends.
Some of Harleys favorite things was going to Braums for chicken tenders, eating at any Mexican Restaurant, drinking Root beer, Sprite and Sweet Tea. At home he enjoyed watching Westerns and Cartoons. He truly enjoyed going to Sunday School, bowling, playing with my Bryar horses, building Legos, coloring and dancing. His favorite famous heroes were Elvis and John Wayne, and he would dress up like them and could imitate both. Harley was quite a jokester and liked to prank his staff members by sneaking up on them and loved making them laugh. He enjoyed his daily drives to see the zebras, camels and horses. He worked for many years in the assembly department at Sunshine Industries before retiring to Adult Day Services. Recently he retired full time at home.
Harley was of Baptist faith and was baptized on December 28, 2003, at the Lone Grove United Methodist Church and then again in November 2012 at Ardmore First Baptist Church. Everyone that met Harley instantly loved him. He was small in stature but mighty in heart. He will be truly missed by those he left behind.
Family members left to cherish his memory are his guardian Esther Douthit and her family Ray Jr. & Ronda Douthit; Roger & Brandy Douthit and Rusty & Cheba Douthit and all their children. His group home brothers, Roger, Fred, Randy H., Tod, and Chris. All the other residents of Carter County Group Home. The staff and board members of Carter County Group Home and Sunshine Adult Day Services.
He was preceded in death by his biological parents, his guardians Ray Douthit Sr. and Jesse Eubanks. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Cross Timbers Hospice for their excellent care over the last year and to the Group Home Staff for their love and care for Harley for the past 36 years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Carter County Group Homes or to Cross Timbers Hospice in Harley’s name.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, on Friday, October 18, 2024, at Griffin~Hillcrest.
