Obituary of Fred Louis Martin Sr.

Fred Louis Martin Sr., age 87, passed away on November 10, 2024, in Ardmore, Okla. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am, Wednesday, November 13, 2024 in The Chapel at Griffin~Hillcrest with interment to follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, Okla. Fred was born in Marietta, Okla. on March 28, 1937, to Alfred Americus and Myrtle Lee (Mayes) Martin. He attended Marietta Schools and enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he received his GED and attended college classes. He served his country for six years and after his discharge, he joined the Air Force National Guard where he retired after 30 years. He worked in Springer at the Gene Autry Air Park, for Stromberg Carlson and then he took a position with Uniroyal, he was badge #71. He met and married Mahota Hunt on January 16, 1987 in Marietta, Okla. They moved to Lone Grove, where they have resided since. Fred loved being outside working his cattle and walking in the woods. Spending time with his family was most important to him, he loved taking his grandchildren fishing any time he could. He will be remembered for his patriotism. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Fred Louis Martin II, daughter, Kathy Howard, infant son, Craig Allen Martin, daughter-in-law, Patti Grayham, sisters, Ruby Blackmon, Anna Pearl Hearon and Mary Ellen Curry, and brothers, Bob Martin, Cecil Martin, and Alfred “Buddy” Martin. Fred is survived by his wife, Mahota Martin, daughters, Carol Roberts and husband, Keith, Elizabeth Burris and husband, Gordon, sons, James Martin, Kenneth Conway, Jim Conway, and Mac Conway and wife, Robin, sixteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren and two special great-granddaughters, Elaina Hudson and Hazel Hutchins. Sister, Marie “Tootsie” Hood, brother, Boyd Martin, and wife, Donna and special canine companion, Missy. Those serving as pallbearers will be Daniel Hutchins, Mac Conway, Fred Martin III, Tre’ Martin, Keith Roberts, and Koby Roberts. Honorary bearers will be Boyd Martin, Jim Conway and Kenneth Conway. Visitation will be from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at Griffin ~ Hillcrest Funeral Home.
