Obituary of Howard Deatherage

Howard Deatherage, age 91, passed away on November 13, 2024, in Ardmore, Okla., after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, November 18, 2024, in the Chapel at Griffin ~ Hillcrest. Interment will follow at 2:00pm, Tuesday, November 19, 2024 in Hopewell Cemetery, Rogersville, MO. Howard was born on March 13, 1933, to Floyd Deatherage and Stella Mae (Landrum) Deatherage in Elizabeth, Arkansas. After high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1952, where he served his country in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in February of 1960. He married Carole Marie Mitchell on March 3, 1956 in Ft. Worth, TX. During their 68-year marriage they had three children. Howard was a long-time member of the Lone Grove Pentecostal Church. He was a man of faith and loved all things horticulture but his greatest love was his God and his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Paul Deatherage, and Junior Deatherage, three sisters, Louise Bryant, Chloetta Abramovitz and Billie Larson. Howard is survived by his wife Carole Deatherage, three children, Debbie Eddings, and husband Charles, of Highlandville, MO., Melody Shackelford, of Marshfield, MO., and John Deatherage, and wife, Lori, of Ardmore, Okla., six grandchildren, April Sweet, Kevin Flaherty, Jonathon Flaherty, Justin Deatherage, Jordan Jones and Kyle Deatherage, ten great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Those serving as pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
