Obituary of Mary Susan “Sue” Underwood

Mary Susan “Sue” Underwood, age 82, passed away on December 14, 2024, in Oklahoma City, Okla. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, December 20, 2024 in The Chapel at Griffin ~ Hillcrest Funeral Home with The Reverend Steve Wall officiating. Cremation with care to follow services.
Sue was born in Lawton, Okla. on May 5, 1942, to Elias Brown and Vera Virgie (Perry) Brown. She attended Chilocco Indian School north of Ponca City, Okla. She and her sister, Juanita moved to California where she went to school to learn how to make Dentures. Sue moved to Sulphur, Okla. where she met Sampson Underwood Jr. who was in the Air Force and they were married on February 27, 1962 and Sue followed him throughout his military career. After he retired the couple moved back to Sulphur, Okla. She worked for Sulphur Public Schools where she worked for five years and then worked for Callaway Nursing Home in housekeeping for four years. Sue then took a position with Chicago Miniature Lights Company working for fifteen years until she retired. She was lovingly known to many as Aunt Sue.
Sue enjoyed working in her flower beds, and taking care of her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her hospitality.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson, Joseph “JoJo” Carney, brothers, Paul Junior Brown, Harley Pete Brown, sister, Juanita Underwood, grandson; Jordan Shane Deese, niece, Rita Lynette Sykes, and nephew, Steve Postoak.
Sue is survived by daughters, Angie Carney and husband, Richard of Ardmore, Okla., Linda (Underwood) Anderson and husband, Michael of Springer, OK, Sheila (Underwood) Alfatal of Sulphur, Okla., sons, Buck Underwood of Owasso, OK, Dustin Couch and wife Anisa of Sulphur, Okla., Todd Couch of Sulphur, Okla., grandchildren, Adrian Carney, Amanda Carney, Maegan Carney, Lennon Carney, Raven Carney, Justyce Underwood, Khalysi Underwood, Leni Underwood, Dorian Underwood, Alex Wells, Aries Couch, Zion Couch, I’Yanna Underwood, Alayna Underwood, and Deiton Martin. Great-grandchildren, Jasper Carney, Addison Larney, and Calypso Tyler, and many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Visitation will be from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Griffin ~ Hillcrest Funeral Home.
