Obituary of Mark Louis Akers

Mark Louis Akers, age 69, of Ardmore died Tuesday, December 24, 2024, in Ardmore, Okla. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, December 30, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Griffin-Hillcrest Funeral Home, with Pastor Artie Farve presiding. Mark was the son of the late Clyde Dempsey “Red/C.D.” Akers, and Martha Adele (née Blome) and was born on September 10, 1955. He spent his formative years in Ardmore, where he continued to reside. A graduate of Ardmore High School in 1973, Mark went on to be hired at the newly opened Uniroyal Goodrich Tire Company in Ardmore. During his time at the tire plant, Mark moved through the ranks as the plant grew significantly. He served in many different capacities and in areas of production over his tenure. Mark was a dedicated member of the company, he witnessed and contributed to many advancements in passenger car and light truck tires, and forged many friendships along the way. In December 2022, Mark retired with pride after 47 years of service to Michelin North America. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mark was known for his devoted fanship to the University of Oklahoma Sooner football team. When he was younger, he enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing, and attending drag races. In 2018, he became a devoted grandfather to his grandson, Everett, for whom he often attended youth sports games to cheer. Mark is survived by his wife: Latricia Akers; son: Tyler Akers and his wife Laura of Ardmore; his brother: Charles Akers and his wife Jerri of Aledo, Texas; his sister, Marilynn Bender of Westminster, Colorado; and two grandchildren: Everett Akers and Emerson Akers of Ardmore. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Dempsey “Red/C.D.” Akers, and Martha Adele (née Blome) Akers.
